AI roll-ups worldwide

Who buys service businesses and rebuilds them with AI? This map collects the platforms, capital providers and studios pursuing the model worldwide. Every entry has a source. The map is kept up to date; pointers to missing companies are welcome. Why the model is the best succession solution for Europe is the subject of the essay.

In short

An AI roll-up is an investor that acquires several service businesses in the same sector, combines them into a group and rebuilds the work with AI. This map counts 74 such players in 17 countries: 54 platforms that acquire themselves, 15 capital providers and 5 studios that execute the rebuild. North America accounts for 39 entries, Europe 28, Asia-Pacific 6. Most platforms roll up accounting and tax firms, followed by legal, insurance brokers and property management. As of 10 October 2026, maintained by Daniel Szabo, data as JSON.

What I read from this

America buys platforms, Europe buys firms.

The US vehicles arrive with billions and take over finished groups: Long Lake the business travel arm of American Express, Sequence the insurance broker Baldwin. In Europe the platforms buy individual tax firms and property managers for single- to low double-digit millions. That is not a lag, it is a different market: more fragmented, owner-managed, without consolidators. This is where the value is created, not in take-privates.

Accounting is the entry point, not the destination.

A third of all platforms roll up tax and accounting firms. The reason is banal: documented processes, licensing, recurring revenue, documents as raw material for the machine. I see the next waves where the same conditions apply and nobody stands yet: property management, insurance brokers, inspection and engineering services, building technology.

Europe's gap is the business without a successor.

Almost every European platform buys from founders who want to sell. Almost none calls it by its name: succession. In Germany, for the first time, more owners plan to close than to hand over. Whoever takes over these businesses and rebuilds the work with AI solves two problems at once. That is where I stand with Generation Tech Partners, and the place is still almost empty.

Daniel Szabo, Hamburg. As of 10 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI roll-up?

An investor acquires several service businesses in the same sector, combines them into a group and rebuilds the work with AI, instead of only pooling purchasing and overhead. The term comes from the US venture scene; General Catalyst coined it in 2024.

How many AI roll-ups are there in Europe?

This map lists 28 players in Europe, 22 of them platforms. Few have scaled with hard evidence so far, among them Dwelly in London, Limetax, Buena and Arbio in Berlin, Jutro Medical in Warsaw and Lawhive in London. Many others are build-first companies without confirmed acquisitions.

Who funds AI roll-ups?

In the US mainly General Catalyst, Thrive Holdings with OpenAI, Lightspeed, 8VC, Bessemer and Elad Gil. In Europe Tenet in Berlin, EQT Growth, Eurazeo, Motive Partners and Generation Tech Partners in Hamburg, which invests exclusively in AI roll-ups of service businesses in succession.

Why is the model the best succession solution for Europe?

Because in Germany more owners now plan to close than to hand over, and one buyer for ten businesses solves the problem that ten individual successors cannot. The argument is in the essay AI roll-ups: the best succession solution for Europe.

How is the map maintained?

Every entry has a source. New companies and corrections go by email to Daniel Szabo and are added in the next run. The data is available as JSON.
